About Lone Wolf

You just need to experience it, there are no words.

It has everything you need except your food. A very magical place. A tiny rustic log cabin on it's own tiny 8 acre pond on 150 wooded acres, 30 minutes from Ottawa, plus an additional 10 minutes to walk out to the cabin.

It feels like miles from nowhere and is located in the municipality of Val des Monts, which is known for it's wilderness and lakes. Lucy and Dwight now make their home at Lone Wolf and they are contently and continually making improvements and finishing details. At the moment they are working on two small additions and a deck all keeping within the specs of less than 600 sq. ft.

A small kitchen/mudroom 6 by 11 has just been completed. There is a nice big Elmira cook stove to replace the tiny Vermont casting stove Lucy originally had. The cook stove has a 5 gallon hot water reservoir which will supply all the hot water for the winter.

They have increased their battery capacity because of additional things that have been added, one of which is a bread maker.

The log work is full Scandinavian scribe and crafted by a young local log builder. The carpentry work was done by Lucy and a few great carpenter friends.

The electricity is produced by solar which Dwight set up. It is cozy, romantic, secluded and private. Lucy has paid special attention to all the little details that will delight you. Ideal retreat for artists, birdwatchers, lovers, or just for anyone who wants peace and quiet.

In the three seasons there is "Gina" the electric golf cart, to help bring your things in. Keeping in line with eco-tourism. Gina is used strictly to help our guests bring in their gear on that last 10 minute walk to the waters edge. Then a five minute canoe ride or walk around the pond on the deer trail.

We supply fresh drinking water from a spring behind the cabin that is tested once a year which is gravity fed to the kitchen sink and the reservoir in the bathroom.. Sometimes it dries up so there is a 1000 liter reserve. In the winter there is a reservoir inside that we fill up once or twice a week. Dwight devised quite the little setup. To be absolutely safe we have a Stefanie 10 liter water filter station set up in the corner. Pure water is always available.

Hot water for dishes comes from the hot water reservoir on the cook stove and solar in the summer. You will find that your water usage is greatly reduced. In the summer there is a propane shower outside, everything is provided to make this a pleasant experience. Propane is supplied for cooking and refrigeration. The refrigerator is 7.5 cubic feet and has a small freezer.

Everything is laid out to gauge your power usage. There is also a small quiet generator if the sun should not appear for the week and also to run the power tools and vacuum once in a while. For music the best thing would be to bring your MP3 player and portable speakers. There is a battery operated radio.

In addition the cabin has a clean, comfortable adorable outhouse built entirely by Lucy with a chainsaw and handsaw before she had her generator. It even has a library! She is very proud of it...can you imagine!!! We encourage you to use this as much as possible.

The loft is only available when the cabin is rented out. B&B guests would have the small bedroom off to the side or the sauna/bunk house which will be build the summer of 2008.  There is a set of garden doors leading out to a small balcony. It adjoins the main room downstairs which measures 14' by 16'. This is where you would dine, games room, cook stove, etc.

The shared bathroom in the cabin has a Sun Mar Composting toilet, a sink and a corner shower in which you bring in the Zodi Extreme We heat the water for the Zodi shower on the woodstove or propane kitchen stove or just take the hot water right from the cook stove reservoir. The bathroom has virgin marble floor and shower walls with  birch trees painted on the wall. It is a very cool bathroom.

A cell phone is a must along with its charger.

There are loads of interesting books for your enjoyment all over the cabin, even in the outhouse.

Please bring your own bathing towels as we do not have washing facilities for large amounts of laundry.Friends staying overnight please bring a sleeping bag.

There are also a couple of canoes available for your use and a few docks here and there to watch the sun disappear behind the large pines that form the tree line.

There is a swimming raft in the middle of the pond that you can swim to. I must warn you that I have spotted leeches (not as in spots on them but that I have seen them) so when I go I do not tread water in one place. I swim out to the raft and back. Hey nothings perfect.

There is the possibility that a sauna will be built this summer so stay tuned....maybe next summer, ice house maybe...oh the possibilities are endless.

At the moment we are in the process of getting a two person hot tub going. We have gotten as far as purchasing the 150 gallon stock tank. We will either purchase the special wood stove to heat the water or Dwight will devise something himself whether it be building his own or doing something solar.

For the winter a natural skating rink  will  be made on the pond, weather conditions permitting, with a skating path all around.
